School is in the air

August Playdough

I added a few drops of DoTERRA's On Guard essential oil this month, I just figured with school starting why not add a little extra to help kill those unwanted germs that come home from school. Not sure if it will be very effective all month, but it adds a nice smell to this already great sensory activity
On Guard Essential Oil

On Guard(TM) asserts a unique proprietary blending of oils, incorporating some of nature?s most valuable constituents. Studies have demonstrated citrus oils to produce some of the most prevailing benefits for eliminating unwanted bacteria, viruses and molds. Wild Orange essential oil, when combined with clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary offer diverse and effective models for use. Its unique aroma is well suited for routine diffusion, ridding the air of unwanted impurities such as bacteria. Safe to use on counter tops, On Guard(TM) is a non-toxic way to disinfect a variety of surface areas. Toxic molds have been identified as a major source for chronic respiratory infections and other health issues. Its prevalence in our homes and the environment is overwhelming. On Guard(TM) is superb for eliminating and controlling infectious molds due to the blended constituents of these extraordinary essential oils. On Guard(TM) can be used topically, internally and diffused into the air.

playdough went school clothes shopping and got a hat and face :)

I saw a Montessori idea for 6months-18months, TREASURE BASKETS! I already did this because L loves to take toys out of buckets and such, but I never really had a theme to it. So I told the kids I wanted to make a treasure basket for the babies and everyone went on a scavenger hunt for green baby safe items. And of course it is loved.

Summer Fun

Here are a few of my favorite things that haven't gotten up here yet:
Waterway Builders

Nap in the shade

24th of July parade
Worm House
Best friends
Cupcakes for no reason

Cardboard house

Astronaut

This is the house that the big boys built
Washing beets

Bouncy Balls

I found this on Pinterest :)
It was a fun science experiment for sure, although the balls never really got hard enough to last long, so when we sat them in our cubbies they just ended up as pancakes, but they did bounce as long as we kept them in a ball shape!

Homemade Bouncy Ball Recipe

Makes one bouncy ball
  • 1 Tablespoon white glue
  • 2-3 drops of food coloring in color of your choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon borax
  • 3 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 Tablespoons warm water
Mix the glue and a few drops of food coloring of your choice together in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch, borax, and warm water together.
Pour the cornstarch mixture over the glue and combine together. Stir until a glob forms.
Take the slimy glob out of the bowl and roll it in your hands. It will be very sticky at first.
Continue rolling for at least a few minutes until it is no longer slimy and feels more like a soft rubber ball (you may need to put some cornstarch on your hands while rolling to help all of the stickiness disappear).
Have fun bouncing your homemade bouncy ball!

What happened to July!?!?

My o my how time flies...
O yes, also one of the little girls closest to my heart (my daughter) jumped on the laptop and it died.
So now we are back in business!
We bought a couple PTA summer movie passes and took the kids a couple of times to the theater. The one time I remembered my camera was the one time there were only 3 kids. How did I forget it when they all got to go??? I hate when I do that. O well. This summer we went to see Madagascar 3, Ice Age 4, and Mirror Mirror!

We tried out a new science experiment I found on Pinterest, and it has become a staple activity! Half a box of baking soda on a cookie sheet, use droppers to drop colored vinegar on the soda. Its pretty cool!

This little cutie turned 7!!! So she got to make cupcakes!

best friends break in the new dough... yeah those three different colors didn't last long

Even little miss B got in on the playdough

Blowing out candles

One morning Mr. Dang found a little bird that couldn't fly hopping around the front yard. So he caught it and showed the kids then put it in the chicken coop to get better. We haven't seen it so either they got rid of it somehow or the little bird got better and flew away...

What in the world???? We tried saving this in a huge container to see if it would build a cocoon and turn into an awesome butterfly or moth, but it just dried up and died. It was a cool caterpillar to look at though!
